It's a boy!

Well, we had a second ultrasound, and we found out that the baby is apparently healthy and developing normally. We also found out that it's a boy!

It was a wonderful experience, seeing him moving around in there. What a blessing to be able to begin bonding with him already!

Now we have the rather weighty task of naming him. Not something that we're taking lightly. Not often are we asked to name something - especially not a person! Kara and I are both very cognizant of the power of a name and the fact that it will have an influence on the child for his entire life.

It's got me thinking about what I most want most for him to be. I keep finding myself returning to the hope that he'll be, first and foremost, a good and kind person. We clearly both also value education and learning quite alot.

With those things in mind, we're throwing around a lot of ideas.

Any thoughts that you, our family and friends, could add would be greatly appreciated.

So out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.

We saw the baby!

Well, today was one of the most exciting days of my life.

Kara and I went to see a certified nurse midwife. She did an ultrasound, and the baby actually was waving at us! We learned that Kara is about a week further along than we had thought. Eleven weeks, two days. The due date is October 17.

Neither of us really thought that at this point we would really see much. Seeing the baby moving around was a big surprise! We could also see the heart fluttering along.

Very cool.
